Avast has announced the appointment of Anthony O'Mara as vice president of Global Sales for Avast Business, as the digital security provider looks to elevate its business security software offering.

O'Mara will oversee the firm's strategy to become a leader in the Business field, providing support for both customers and partners alike.

That includes new initiatives such as referral programmes to help businesses boost growth, Avast said, as well as a reshaping of its partner program to appeal to a broader range of partner types.

With the company making its endpoint security products available for free during the COVID-19 pandemic to support remote working, O'Mara will also front new efforts to engage with partners and will be announcing virtual trade events to showcase Avast offerings.

Reporting directly to Avast Business General Manager Vita Santrucek, O'Mara will manage his global sales team from the company's London office.

"The opportunity to further extend our foothold within business security is significant," O'Mara commented. "The operational changes that small to midsize businesses have made in recent years have led to greater exposure to a fast-moving threat landscape.

"I am looking forward to progressing Avast's corporate business by deepening and expanding the relationships we have with channel partners to support our customers against these threats."

O'Mara joins Avast following a five-year stint at anti-malware software specialist Malwarebytes, where he held the position of vice president EMEA. Before that, he was vice president EMEA at cybersecurity firm Trend Micro.

Beginning his career in finance and operations, he has also held several vice president Finance positions before making the switch to general management.

Avast said O'Mara's industry knowledge and experience working with businesses and partners will be a "great asset" as it looks to continue strengthening its Business portfolio.

"Typically, small businesses suffer from limited resources and expertise in cybersecurity which is why over the past 12 months we've added to our own talent pool and strengthened our security portfolio," Santrucek said.

"We have enhanced our security platform CloudCare to include a new feature that patches critical vulnerabilities and launched Secure Internet Gateway (SIG), a cloud-based firewall which replaces traditional on-premise security hardware.

"We're committed to providing our partners and business customers with enterprise-grade security that fits within their budget.”
