Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) has announced the appointment of Niclas Sanfridsson as its new chief executive officer, following current CEO Detlef Spang's decision to retire at the end of the year.

Effective from 2nd December, the move comes as a direct result of Spang's retirement, having led the firm since its inception as an operationally-independent business from the Colt network business in 2015.

During his tenure, Spang drove the data centre business and accelerated growth of its hyperscale footprint, Colt DCS said, enabling it to realise its vision of becoming the "most trusted and customer-centric" data centre operator.

"I would like to thank Detlef for his commitment and invaluable contribution in driving the significant expansion of our business forward over the past four years," said Michael Wilens, Colt DCS chairman.

"Detlef has been a pivotal driving force in the transformation of the Colt Data Centre business becoming a major hyperscale data centre provider across Europe and the APAC and wish him all the best for the future."

Taking over the role, Sanfridsson is tasked with continuing this progress and driving further expansion in both new and existing markets.

With more than 20 years' experience in the industry, Sanfridsson joins the company having recently spent two years as Pulsant CEO. Prior to that, he was managing director of Equinix in the Nordic region, following 15 years as at Telecity where he similarly led the Swedish firm as MD.

Colt DCS said the leadership change will not impact the future strategy of the business and it will remain focused on the development of its hyperscale portfolio across Europe and Asia, as well as driving its hybrid cloud offering.

"We are confident that with almost 20 years of experience in running data centre businesses, Niclas will lead Colt DCS into its next phase of growth and build further upon the customer success that we have seen in satisfying the requirements of our customers across the globe," Wilens added.
